want list: It Came From Hollywood

Another favorite from my childhood is the unbelievably goofy "It Came From Hollywood" -- the film is really a mash-up of clips from 50s and 60s cheeseball flicks, mixed in with in-between clips from Saturday Night Live alumni such as Dan Akroyd, John Candy, Rick Moranis, as well as Cheech & Chong and others.

Along the lines of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" (but well before that show came into existence), "Hollywood" was the film that introduced me to b-movie schlock as a young'un, and I probably brought this one home from good ol' Choice Video at least a dozen times over the years.

It was poised to be released on DVD a couple years ago, but then literally a month before streeting, it was yanked, apparently because of all the difficulties in getting release rights for the dozens of films featured in this b-movie compliation. Somewhere out there, there are DVDs ready to hit the shelves, and I'd sure love it if someone from Paramount could see fit to drop me a copy anonymously in the mail... wink wink, nudge nudge.

want list: Cosmic Christmas

I thought long & hard about what I should put down as the very first (and far from the last) entry in my "DVD Want List" and it didn't take me but a few moments to pick an absolute childhood fave, one that I have been pining for like a raving crackhead: "Cosmic Christmas" (aka "A Cosmic Christmas.")

This 1977 Nelvana 30-minute gem is permanently fused to my childhood memories, as I fondly recall the good ol' Canadian Broadcasting Corporation running this sucker each and every Christmas (usually as a double-bill with "The Christmas Raccoons," which will probably soon find its way onto this very same "Want List.") The simple, quaint, cute, loveable story tells the tale of 3 aliens who come to Earth to learn the meaning of Christmas (sure, why wouldn't they?) and end up learning just that, thanks to a boy, a bully and a goose. 'Nuff said.

Not seen since a limited home video release years ago, this one turns up now & again on bootleg VCDs on ebay (if you're lucky) - I have even personally tried to license the DVD distribution rights directly from Nelvana, but have been told that "they are not available" -- does that mean my patience will soon be rewarded? Here's hoping!
