review: ICE AGE (Blu-ray)

Heading south to avoid the bad case of global frostbite, a group of migrating misfit creatures embark on a hilarious quest to reunite a human baby with his tribe. Featuring an all-star voice cast, including Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Denis Leary, ICE AGE is "a pure delight" (New York Daily News) for all ages! I've never been a big fan of CG movies, yet this was one I saw in the theater when it first came out, and I have to admit that I enjoyed it. I haven't seen it since then, but once a Blu-ray copy arrived at my doorstep for review on the mighty DVDschlock.com, I happily sat down to once again acquaint myself with Sid, Scrat & the gang. Just as 12 years ago, I enjoyed the film, and thought it held up pretty darn well since it was first released, both in terms of entertainment value and quality of animation. The "A" list actors voicing the main characters are at once both recognizable but also perfectly cast for their respective roles and, if anything, I'm more familiar with the actors today than I was back in 1996. My 5-year old son also wandered in periodically to watch this one with me, and suffice it to say that this film is a hit with the young'uns as well... (glad I like the film, as now I think I'll be watching this one quite often with my boy...) Fun movie, still enjoyable... and wait until you feast your eyes upon how good it looks! (see below) Video Even though this movie is a few years old now, it looks like it came out yesterday, thanks to the magic of 1080p high definition transfers from a pristine digital source! This is the type of movie that was meant to be seen on Blu-ray and it's a treat for your eyeballs to behold! Audio The included DTS 5.1 Master Lossless audio track is on par with the visuals, delivering a stupendous surround mix. Extras audio commentary w/ director & co-director "Scrat's Missing Adventure" short film deleted scenes trailers Closing Thoughts Engaging, fun animated tale + decent extras = great fun for all ages, in pristine Blu-ray splendor!
