From the hit-making producerof "The Rock" and "Crimson Tide" comes the hard-hitting blockbuster "Con Air," starring Academy Award(R)-winner Nicolas Cage ("Leaving Las Vegas," Best Actor, 1995; "The Rock"), John Cusack ("Grosse Pointe Blank", and John Malkovich ("In The Line Of Fire")! A prison parolee (Cage) - on his way to freedom - faces impossible odds when the maximum security transport plane he's on is skyjacked by themost vicious criminals in the country ... led by the infamous murderer Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom (Malkovich)! Buckle up and hang on tight as explosive high-flying action soars to new heights ... and delivers high-caliber motion picture entertainment!

My love affair with "Con Air" goes back to the first time I saw it in the theater - even though it was clear during that first viewing that it held little redeeming value, it was the very model of a big-budget, action-packed, ass-kicking action flick and it was damned enjoyable! Since then, I've picked up every single DVD release that has come out, and now I also have the pleasure of watching the film on Blu-ray high def as well.

By now, if you haven't seen this film, you're probably not going to (as, for whatever reason, you've decided not to let go of your snooty cinematic beliefs and just cut loose with some fun action fluff) but if you have seen the film and, like me, love it, then you're definitely not going to be disappointed with this release. I swear it looks better than it even did in the theater, and given that the film didn't come out all that long ago, that's no mean feat.

Fun fun fun - nothing wrong with that, so put on a bowl of popped corn, throw the feet up and turn your receiver's volume knob way up - time to kick back and enjoy.

Video
Watching this guilty pleasure in Blu-ray high def was mesmerizing - the 1080p, 2.35:1 widescreen transfer was first-rate, and delivered a level of quality that this film has never before had. Great stuff.

Audio
The PCM soundtrack is booming and will put your full surround set-up through a strenuous workout (much to the enjoyment of your auditory canals!)

Extras
  • "A View from Above" featurette
  • "Destruction of Las Vegas" featurette
  • trailers

    Closing Thoughts
True blockbuster popcorn movie that's all about having fun + minimal extras = hugely entertaining film finally in HD!
