Fox // Buy from Amazon.comIn this riveting, behind-the-scenes look at big business in the 1980's, an ambitious young broker (Charlie Sheen) is lured into the illegal, lucrative world of corporate espionage when he is seduced by the power, status and financial wizardry of Wall Street legend Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). But he soon discovers that the pursuit of overnight riches comes at a price that's too high to pay. We recently reviewed the standard definition DVD of the 20th anniversary edition of this classic film, and now we have the distinct pleasure of reviewing the Blu-ray high definition release as well. While the overall quality doesn't appear to be a dramatic improvement over the (excellent) standard def release, it's still Blu-ray, so you know you get that extra notch in quality, even if it's not all that discernable. Love the film, love Gordon Gecko, love the crazy 80s. This is a fantastic film that is as much a time capsule as it is a piece of entertainment, acting as a snapshot in time of the turbulent, rocking-and-rolling Reagan decade... Great stuff. Video It's a 20 year old film, so you're not going to get reference quality that you could expect from a recent release, but there's no doubt that this high def transfer is probably the best the film has ever looked! Audio The included DTS HD Master Lossless Audio track is solid - just as with the video, you're not going to get a huge upgrade in quality or overall (aural) experience, but it's good, clean & solid, so no complaints. Extras Closing Thoughts Same as previous review -- truly classic, epic film, with great extras, now with the magic of a Blu-ray transfer to boot! |
