Fox // Buy from Amazon.comJim Carrey delivers an outrageous performance in this "fall-down, flat-out, irresistibly deranged movie" (Rolling Stone). Rhode Island state trooper Charlie Baileygates (Jim Carrey) proves that nice guys finish first after marrying the prettiest gal in town. But when she leaves him for another man, Charlie develops a split personality and his outrageous opposite, Hank, is born! Hank's got a filthy mouth, drinks like a fish and loves dirty, dirty sex. When Charlie falls crazy in love with beautiful but wanted Irene, he must battle Hank for her affection while on the run from both the cops and the criminals. I remember going to see this movie by myself in the theater - I can't remember why I didn't go with my wife, but I went and was 1 of about 7 people in the entire theater (obviously not opening weekend.) Whether it was the nice sunny day, the delicious popcorn, or the gut-busting humor of the Farrelly brothers, I was literally squealing like a pig I was laughing so hard... in fact, I think I inhaled my popcorn during the "Milkie" scene (take your pick which one I'm referring to) and started to choke... Love this film - Jim Carrey is excellent as the (relatively) straightman, and even ol' lemonface Zellweger is likeable in this one. However, it's unquestionably the supporting cast that makes this one such a riot - the small person limo driver, Carrey's 3 sons (including the always-hilarious Anthony Anderson), or the aforementioned Milkie... damn funny stuff. Doesn't seem like this Blu-ray release ported over all of the extras available on the previously-released standard def DVD for the title, but it's always nice to get a high def option I suppose... Video Presented in a 1080p high def transer in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, the film lookspretty darned good, but I still can't help but feel that it could've benefitted from some remastering. Audio The DTS HD Master Lossless Audio track is excellent, although given that this one is a comedy (think front-heavy talkie mix), it really won't astound you. Extras Closing Thoughts Very very funny comedy + okay extras = good movie, but midling Blu-ray release |
