review: THE OFFICE: SEASON 3

Universal Studios  //  Buy from Amazon.com

Clock in to The Office for even more inappropriate remarks, uncomfortable silences and petty behavior in the complete third season, recently nominated for nine 2007 Primetime Emmy® Awards including Best Comedy, Best Actor (Steve Carell), Best Supporting Actor (Rainn Wilson) and Best Supporting Actress (Jenna Fischer). Carell (40 Yr. Old Virgin, Evan Almighty) is back in his Golden Globe®-winning role as ignorant but harmless boss Michael Scott. And now there is even more of him to love -- the Season 3 four-disc collection contains all 22 hilarious episodes and tons of exclusive bonus features! You'll want to stay late at The Office to relive every entertaining episode of this must-see, must-own TV show that demands to be watched again and again.

I will admit to being initially wary (if not downright skeptical) when I heard that there was going to be an American adaptation of the painfully-funny British tv series "The Office" - how could they ever hope to rework & recapture the magic of those British nutbags? Well, within 2 episodes of Season 1 of NBC's version, I was hooked, and already I'm reviewing Season 3's DVD set - how time flies!

This is one show I faithfully watch every single episode when it airs on TV, so all of these episodes were very familiar to me... but sitting down to peruse them one after another for this review, I was struck by the smooth flow and continuing story & character development that continues throughout the season. These really aren't just one-off episodes, but taken together form part of a greater whole... a gut-wrenchingly funny whole, that takes the smirkiness of the BBC version and mixes it with just enough U.S. pompousness to resonate with North American viewers.

Great characters, great writing, very funny - what's not to love?

Video
Presented in their original 16x9 aspect ratios, every episode of this season set is spectacular, with crisp detail, rich coloring and not a single blemmish to take away from this superb presentation.

Audio
Dolby 5.1 surround mix included for each episode, and while its a front-heavy comedy mix, can't complain, as it's a sonically-perfect mix throughout.

Extras
  • huge amounts of deleted scenes
  • 8 commentaries on 9 episodes
  • "Kevin Cooks Stuff in the Office" cooking show
  • Dwight Schrute music video
  • Joss Whedon interview
  • "Make Your Own Promo" videos
  • blooper reel
  • "Lazy Scranton" music video
  • "Office" scene from Conan O'Brien's Emmy Awards opener

    Closing Thoughts
Brilliant, hilarious seaon for an already-classic show + TONS of extras = excellent DVD set to add to your collection
