Shy By Day Productions // Buy from official siteIt's been nearly 2000 years since Jesus was last seen. Many people believe that he will return to this world in the near future to save them. They were right about one thing. Now Alex and his friends must stop Jesus from destroying all of humanity. I'll admit to knowing absolutely about this film when we were first contacted to see if we'd like to receive a screener DVD for review, but with a title like "Jesus H. Zombie," what option was there but to say, "Hell yeah we'll review it!" and eagerly await the USPS to deliver it into our curious hands? I'm very happpy to report in that this is a helluva fun romp through microbudget filmmaking - I would fathom a guess that the entire budget for this wonderful inane adventure might've even hit the triple digits, and know that I say that not as a slight against the film, but quite the contrary -- to see what an ambitious indie filmmaker can do with a winner of an idea and a cast & crew willing to help realize his vision is fantastical... AND entertaining! Now, make no mistake: this film is not going to compete with even low-budget type films as far as production quality, acting abilities, special effects, etc... but to that I say "GOOD!" and salute Daniel Heisel for crafting such a fun, balls-out entertaining film... looking forward to the next one(s) from this emerging talent! Video The film is delivered via a 4:3 aspect ratio, and I'll be damned if I can't tell what format this was shot in. My first thought was DV, but it's much smoother and less "harsh" than DV typically is, so either they bumped up to a high quality camera, or they are running some nice post-production softening filters (in which case, I want to know which ones so I can use them on my next movie!) Audio Nice, clean audio, with easily-discernable dialogue, which is always hit-and-miss with low-budget productions (thankfully these Shy By Day folks knew what they were doing!) Extras Closing Thoughts Entertaining & painfully original zombie flick + no extras (at least on our screener DVD) = great example of what a creative idea can lead to in independent filmmaking!
