Elite Entertainment // Buy from Amazon.comFrom werewolves to bats; aliens to maniacal robots; mummies to zombies. For almost 100 years, the film industry has graced the screen with an eclectic array of movie monsters, and some of those most notable screen legends are highlighted in Elite Entertainment's "Creature Features Collection." Originally produced by and featured on Bravo Network, "Creature Features Collection" explores the history of monsters in cinema, and how they relate to the human condition. Each episode--The Beasts, The Machines and The Dead--features an abundance of classic film clips from some of Hollywood's greatest horror and science fiction films. A 3-part documentary series supposedly examining a century of horror films, the episodes instead play out as a collection of flim clips, mostly from films you know, but a few from more obscure titles. In & of itself that is interesting, but I would've hoped for the narration to be a bit more enlightening or engaging, or there to be some logical progression from one clip to the next. Unfortunately, that's not usually the case. However, those detractions aside, my interest was held throughout the 2 1/2 hours of clips I watched, as the producers did do a nice job of selecting notable scenes from notable films... and I suppose part of the fun is trying to apply my own logic as to why this one film was included, or what in hell these 2 films have in common under the heading of "The Dead"... Not the type of entertainment I was expecting, but I'll take it however I can get it. Video Presented in its original fullscreen (4:3) aspect ratio, the episodes all look solid, with a nice, even picture quality throughout. Audio Dolby stereo mix is nothing fancy, but no complaints either, as it's a clean & clear mix. Extras Closing Thoughts Interesting documentary analyzing 100 years of horror + no extras = worth a gander, but maybe not for everyone Labels: review |
