review: PORKY'S: THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION

Go all the way with the hot and wild Porky's Ultimate Collection, featuring all three uproariously irreverent Porky's films together for the first time in one bulging package, including the all-new "One Size Fits All" Edition, Porky's II: The Next Day and the DVD virgin appearance of Porky's Revenge. They say it's never as good as your first time, but with the Porky's Ultimate Collection you'll be sure to reach a happy ending again and again!

Growing up in the 80s, "Porky's" was a rite of passage - somehow, in the loosey-goosey time period before parents analyzed every frame of every movie their kids were subjected to, my folks would rent these movies with their friends and us kids would sneak into the room to watch... and see how long we'd be able to stay before getting kicked out (we rarely did - it was a bonding thing, in retrospect.) Of course, watching the movies now in 2007, there's a bit of folky charm to them, as they're absolutely products of the 80s era, and most kids are watching things that would've made our eyes pop out of our head 30 years ago...

I love these films: the first is an out-and-out classic (no disputing that), the 2nd is close to being on par with the original (but the opening graveyard scene is hands-down one of the top 3 funniest scenes ever filmed in any movie ever), and Part 3 is really an afterthought - still fun to watch, but definitely #3 in terms of quality, comedy and interest. Still, for you completists out there, having all 3 bundled together in a single collection is a beautiful thing.

If you still have milk behind the ear and somehow have never experience the splendor that is "Porky's" - buy or rent this collection right now and see what real comedy is all about!

Video
All three films get anamorphic widescreen transfers, and while none are bad, none are especially great either. Granted, these are some early 80s sex comedies, so I'm sure the master prints haven't been kept in a hermetically-sealed vault, but a crisper picture would've been nice.

Audio
Dolby stereo mixes across the board - nothing special, but a-okay as-is.

    Closing Thoughts
Great collection of true comedic gems + some solid extras for fans of the series = must-have addition to any DVD library
