review: ZOMBIES VS. SATAN

Troma Studios  //  Buy from Amazon.com

Wiseguys vs. Zombies - Freddy Six Times and August Mirabella are of the New York's most feared hit men, delivering a package to Miami. But the package contains a deadly secret: a plague that can reanimate the dead. When the mob boys accidentally release the virus, they have to rely on their wit and new cache of firepower to defeat the nemesis and complete the delivery before the Mob and the Cuban Mafia target them for death!

Meat for Satan's Icebox - David Silvio's Meat for Satan's Icebox is a shocking and truly disturbing expose on cannibalism. After murdering the headmistress of her Catholic school, Cindy is kidnapped by the owners of Satan's Icebox, a local deli. What she learns is that the inhabitants of Satans Place aren't just buying mean from the slaughterhouse but the flesh of runaways! Even the most sadistic tortures can't stop these captive young girls from the Sapphic perversions while they await their turn as the main course!

God bless Lloyd Kaufman - the man not only creates some of the most truly original b-movies ever committed to celluloid, not only sticks up his middle finger to the establishment any change he gets, but he also releases little no-budget gems such as the 2 films included in this release, much to the delight of Tromatics and fans of z-movie everywhere!

2 different movies you could not find, but with each displaing creative zeal and a penchant for turning a dollar into a thousand, these uber-indie flicks will delight even the most jaded of shot-on-video cinemaphiles out there. Whoda thunk of zombies battling it out with the mafia? How about cannibalism in middle America? This is the stuff of legend here folks - and you get both for the price of 1!

Entertaining even when they're so bad they're bad, these films are well worth your time and attention and we need to send a messaage to Hell's Kitchen: Troma, we want more indie, shot-on-DV fare -- release more under the Dogpile 95 monicker and save us from the putrid stench of slick, Glossywood productions!

Video
Each film is presented in its original aspect ratio (1.85:1 and fullscreen, respectfully) and while neither are going to have THX quaking in their boots anytime soon, I was pleasantly surprised at how solid each film's picture quality waas.

Audio
Dolby stereo mixes for both films are also well done and easy on the ears.

Extras
  • Wiseguys vs. Zombies - behind the scenes featurette, trailer
  • usual boatload of Tromatic extras

    Closing Thoughts
No-budget 2-pack from the mighty Troma + some fun li' extras = excellent value for fans of no-budget cinema!
