Music Video Distributors // Buy from Amazon.comThis DVD contains the ultimate review and critical analysis of U2's most pivotal album. It offers a previously unobtainable level of insight into the band during the recording of their most dynamic and well respected album. Via the use of live footage, long forgotten videos and the review, criticism and insight of a panel of highly opinionated experts, this package delivers the finest documentary film yet to emerge on Dublins favorite sons. Achtung Baby was the album that fired U2 into the 90s when the four-piece dramatically overhauled their traditional approach to songwriting. Full disclosure: "Achtung Baby" is the album that (a) really turned me on to U2 (I'd heard tracks from "Joshua Tree" but they'd never really resonated with me) and (b) completely changed my life and introduced me to previously-undiscovered levels of emotion conjured up by the heart-wrenching lyrics and music found on this album. As such, I was very eager to check out this particular installment of the "Classic Album Under Review" series and see what nuggest o' information I could learn about the greatest album ever made (in my eyes, anyway.) As it turns out, I did already know most of what was presented in this 68-minute documentary, but in all fairness, that's only because I'm such a huge fan of the band, and of this album in particular. For the average fan, or new discoverer of this seminal album, the interviews featured as part of this documentary will undoubtedly be very enlightening. Of course, even though I know better, it's always disappointing to watch DVDs in this series and not be able to hear from the featured band themselves, and I would love to see an hour-long conversation with Bono et all, discussing "Achtung Baby" (and it's immediate successor, "Zooropa," which I feel is Side B to the Side A of "Achtung.") But... that's not to be, so in the meantime, enjoy this well-deserved look at a beautiful album. Video Shot on video, the various clips comprising this documentary are presented in a fullscreen (4x3) aspect ratio that is mostly clean throughout. Audio Dolby Stereo mix does the job nicely, delivering the audio portions in a clear fashion. Extras Closing Thoughts Interesting look at a truly groundbreaking album + some amusing extras = well worth checking out if you're a fan of U2, or the mighty "Achtung Baby" Labels: review |
