review: DEAD AND DEADER

Anchor Bay Entertainment  //  Buy from Amazon.com

On a mission in Cambodia, Lt. Bobby Quinn leads his platoon on a raid, targeting a secret experimental laboratory. Once inside, they make several gruesome discoveries including a tank of mysterious life-extending scorpions, mutilated dead bodies and a population of zombies, ready to munch on the living.

When Lt. Quinn wakes up stateside in a body bag barely avoiding his own autopsy, he finds that he is the only one who can save the world from a growing zombie infection with the help of an unlikely band of heroes including the military cook Judson and wacky waitress Holly.

Pit some zombies against military soliders and, regardless of the weak script and painfully unfunny dialogue, you're bound to be entertained. "Dead and Deader" delivers exactly that type of mindless, goofy, b-movie fun we all love to enjoy, and the fine folks at Anchor Bay have seen fit to release it for us!

Now, while I was admittedly a bit cheesed that someone beat me to the intended title for the planned sequel to my zombie kung-fu opus "Rotten Shaolin Zombies," kudos to the filmmaker for taking what I agree is a kick-ass title and delivering an appropriate story to go along with it.

The story itself has something to do with Superman (Dean Cain) teaming up with a lippy sidekick and a film student to battle his former army buddies (now flesh-craving undeadites), but really it doesn't matter - we get gore, we get zombies, we get to howl with delight at the cheesy and gory (and sometimes cheesily gory) carnage unleashed on the screen.

A good movie? Hell no. But a fun one? Definitely. Giv'er.
