Troma Studios // Buy from Amazon.comWhen the notorious Diaper Mafia take hostage the Tromaville School for the Very Special, only the Toxic Avenger and his morbidly obese sidekick Lardass can save Tromaville. However, an explosion results in some unforeseeable consequences, creating a dimensional tear between Tromaville and its dimensional mirror image, Amortville. While the Toxic Avenger (Toxie) is trapped in Amortville, Tromaville comes under the control of Toxie's evil doppelganger, the Noxious Offender (Noxie). Will Toxie return to Tromaville in time to stop Noxie's rampage or is he doomed to remain a second-class citizen in Amortville forever? How did Toxie's wife Sarah become pregnant with two babies from two different fathers? Will Tito, the Retarded Rebel, ever get over his teen angst and become a productive member of society? While the first "Toxic Avenger" is a true b-movie classic, Parts 2 & 3 left me feeling hungry for something with more substance. Thankfully, "Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part IV" was made and it absolutely, unequivocally delivers on every bit of blood, guts, skin and politically incorrect dialogue you would expect from a Tromatic feature. The story is actually quite involved (esp. for a Troma flick) and features a huge ensemble cast of all kinds of weirdos and wackos (Dolphin Boy had to be my favorite). Despite having seen every movie in the Troma catalogue, I'm still shocked with what they think up AND get away with in their movies - never mind pushing the envelope, they eat, digest, expell and re-eat the envelope with the shenanigans in this one! Make sure you have a very strong stomach before sitting down to watch, as otherwise you can expect a very rough ride. This release not only packs an "Unrated Director's Cut" version of the film on the disc (shudder at the thought), but includes an entire second disc of extras, including a feature-length documenary on the making of this film! Unbelievable value, eye-popping (literally and figuratively) on-screen carange, and a good time from start to finish. One thing you can always count on when venturing into Tromaville is that you are going to be highly entertained -- as such, it's very easy to recommend this one! Video Troma's Lloyd Kaufman always films his movies in full-frame (1.33:1) so he can pack as much picture into the film as he can, and so this DVD presents the film in that aspect ratio. Overall, it's a decent looking print - definitely not THX quality, but hey, it's Troma, so anything is going to be relished & gobbled up by the eager fans! Audio Decent, audible, not fantastic, but par for the course! Extras Closing Thoughts The true sequel to the classic "Toxic Avenger" + entire 2nd disc of extras = pure, beautiful Troma, in all it's mutant glory! Labels: review |
