Buena Vista // Buy from Amazon.comGrant's Lake is a nice, peaceful community, a great place to live. But someone at the neighboring Gereco Corporation has conducted an illicit experiment that gets out of control. Soon the only survivor from the age of dinosaurs emerges from the lake, and it's ravenous for prey! This feeding frenzy of action entertainment stars Costas Mandylor, Charles Napier ("Lords of Dogtown," "The Manchurian Candidate"), Jane Longenecker, Jake Thomas ("AI: Artificial Intelligence") and Joanna Pacula ("Virus"). I loves me some bad monster movies - the cheesier the better - but "Dinocroc" stretched even the limits of my tolerance. With nary a speck of quality about it (be it acting, directorial, action or special effects), watching this film quickly descended into squeals of laughter at the unbelievable rottenness of the whole affair. If there were such things as "paint by numbers" for b-movies, this would be the formulaic stuff churned out by such a venture - the film liberally pulls from pretty much all major monster/toxic waste/save the small town type o' movies and doesn't even try to spin a yarn of its own originality. The most surprising part of all this is that Roger Corman's name is attached, as Producer... but then again, if we're talking paint-by-numbers, Corman is the man who single-handedly invented the b-movie-making formula for success. Since I'm sure the budget for this film waas about $85, no doubt it only needs a few DVD sales and maybe the odd screening on the Sci-Fi Channel to make a windfall for the production company... ... so is "Dinocroc 2" on the horizon? Video The 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer is decent, but not great, with a surprising amount of visible print damange present throughout the film. Audio Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo mix is also decent - no real complaints, but hardly anything spectacular either. Extras Closing Thoughts Barely enjoyable stinkfest + no extras = suitable for late-nite weekday viewing, but that's about it Labels: review |
